It was your pretty normal day for the boys, morning at the playground, out for lunch, naps, walking around the mall…and then Aiden and Lucas decided to throw out a few surprises.
First, I was getting Lucas ready for bed and had him sitting in his room on the carpet. I knelt down and he got really excited, going on all fours. I anticipated the usual belly flop along with swimming motion attempting to lunge himself forward to me. Well wouldn’t you know, he took his first crawling steps forward! He’s been pretty mobile lately, but no real crawling until today. The proud mommy in me was cheering him on and then the practical mommy thought, “Oh shit. Three mobile kids. I’m screwed. Game on.”
I guess Mr Aiden didn’t want to be shown up by his baby brother so he asked to go potty, standing at the bottom of the stairs with his pants around his ankles, extremely proud of himself for wiggling his way out of his jeans. He got up on that potty and sat down and peed like it was no big deal. He has gone a few times, but just for a second or two and then would stop, just to say he did it and ask for an M&M. Aiden has seemed a bit more ready, where Roman really wants nothing to do with it. Perhaps it was the motivation from picking out big boy underwear today. We popped into Gap Kids and I just showed Aiden and Roman the big big underwear, explaining to them that if they want to wear them, they need to go potty and there will be no more diapers. They seemed all for it so I let them each get a pack. Not sure when we’ll go all in on this potty training craziness (I am not pushing it, as diapers can be quite convenient for a number of reasons-especially with 3 kids) but tonight was a little exciting considering the ridiculous number of diapers that get used in this house…I feel really bad for our garbage men.
Oh and on another milestone note, Lucas can go from laying to sitting, causing me yet again to curse the aging of my baby boy. This is how I discovered his new skill-at 6am checking on him with the video monitor:
